Baby Talks.

Most of my friends are married and have kid or two. What I have noticed is that few of them just go on and on about thier kids all the time. Right from what words they learnt yesterday to what they were wearing in morning and what food they eat in afternoon and on what side of the bed they slept in evening.

Like this office co-worker of mine. I am subjected to baby stories every time I come across her. In the begining I was all ears but gradually all the stories have just been getting longer and more details. I really dont know what to say about each of those 384 baby pictures in that album she brings to me.

I do understand that all parents have cute babies and kids mean a lot to them. But do you really have to bore someone to death by sharing every minute details of what your baby did/does/do? I am not being mean here but I really think there is a line at which you should stop. I try to keep a smiling face when these stories start but sometimes even my face gives away. I really wish people know when to stop.

What do you think - Is it just me?

I know where you are coming from. I think people who have kids should not be going on and on about their kids. The first time around everyone is interested but after that they should maybe get a blog and write about them so all interested can read and enjoy.I think it is the same with people who are married and keep on relating their stories to the unmarried ones. maybe they are not interested. A workplace is no place for this. An occasional story everyone has but not every step, every cry and every word said.

Its mee too...I keep asking ppl if I were to be a guy or something as most ladies would love this but I cant take it and I dont even sit with a cute face to begin with so no one talk to me about tht...I may make any casual exquiry n I get very small answers...I am sure my face says it all ..It says "dont give me essays please, I dont want to pretend I love hearing them"...I am mean n moody, so I think this nature fits my bill.

I think parents in general show more interest of their children to their friends. It is not show off, but they like to share about their kids and what they are doing.
Sometimes it can be annoying, as you may never know what they really speak.
I think you need to cut off slowly and move away by saying got to work/ check mails so on. Its not being rude, but thaz the fact.

I agree with Priya. dont be rude because everyone thinks their child is the smartest or the prettiest.just politely move away and pretend to be busy.

Also I think priya is right you like that oogle.he he he he.

LOL haha so funny! I know wut u mean tho...so damn annoying sometimes. I love babies too and I'd do anything to get a glance of a newborn baby...but to hear library-long stories like this? NO WAYS!

I'd just say 'I think I need a holiday from ur baby talk'...

oh, you poor thang....how about everytime they bring up their kids you start talking about your dog or your car's engine or your computer - hell, even take pictures to show them - ha ha, that should send them a clue!

*phew*

That means I am not complete off the mark. I know how every parent likes to talk about kids but few times I just felt that it was too much. I also know it is kind of sensitive topic and any reaction otherwise from me would warrant careful threading.

I just wasn't able to take it anymore and hence the rant. Thanks guys, appreciate your comments.

Feels much better now.

Kkalpz, Astral, Manic, Jon, Vaibhav. Thanks for your comments.

Vaibhav, Ofcourse it is my personal feeling. I never said I dont like kids. Infact they all treat me as friend and we all have good time. I play wid them, I dance wid them, I sing wid them and I am one of them with them. They dont bore me. So I dont know where you saw me saying getting bored with kids.

My pet peeve is with people who talk about kids at places they shouldn't be like the workplace I talked about in this post. I get bored when they narrate me long detailed stories everyday. I am short of words when they ask me what I feel about each of those 300 odd pictures taken on same day.

There is always a limit on who you are talking to, how much you are talking and when you are talking. I dont appreciate that and I am sure no one does.

Lastly, I pray I dont change my perspective over the time. Actually I am sure I wont.

Most people are comfortable talking about the things they know, and parents are often immersed in their children so they make natual fodder for conversation. A simple trick we can all use ... Ask more than tell. Ask the other person about themselves, get them talking about themselves, then practice being a good listener. That way WE won't bore them with stories about us. Try it, it really works.

Also, Mumbai guy, thanks for stopping by "To Love, Honor and Dismay" today and for leaving such a supportive comment. I really appreciate it.

All the best!
Andrew

U r definitely not alone, dude. If you come across a parent/parents of a baby or someone who has recently fallen in love, RUN...and run fast. Coz they'll never know when to stop and can bore U to death.
I love babies myself but just being with them and watching them doing things on their own....not boring stories by their parents...

Andrew, I tried that but that got me into even more trouble. She just increased her capacity beyond what I could take. Hence the post :(

Ashley, Thank you for being in my team ;)

Ishita, No I didn't comment on likes of you. Like Starry said, it is perfectly okay to blog and write. That gives people a choice to take what they can. Like for example, It is hard for me to spend equal amount of time in all the 300+ pictures and give feedback individually. I might look at some for few seconds and others for minutes. Having a picture link or left alone with album would be much better. So no, you wouldn't fall in my definition. Cheers.

Priyanka, you have a nice pose out there in your picture profile. Very eye catching. :-)

:-).. u didn't have to clarify that really!!

i got frenz who'll tell me str8 on my face if m talkin too much abt vedant...for that matter even R gets a bit hassled and he'll be like..."does it always have to be abt d kid?"...lolz...

ummm...now lemme read the new post...

tc!
